Gualchos – Castell de Ferro Town Hall on Granada’s Costa Tropical province has released the project for construction of a walkway which will make it easier to connect the Castell de Ferro beach with the Cambriles beach. The project has been requested by residents of the town hall for several years.

Mayor Toñi Antequera said that this is a “necessary infrastructure for the day-to-day life of the municipality”, as currently the passage between the two beaches “is not comfortable and requires detours that waste time for both residents and visitors”.

The project has a budget just above 81,000 euros, and the deadline for bids to be submitted is 3 February. The city hall has already begun working towards awarding the contract so that it can be finished in time to operate the footbridge in the summer.

Antequera stated, “We would like it ready as soon possible because it will improve accessibility and the quality of life for everyone, especially during the busiest seasons”.

Environmental reports

The new infrastructure allows for easier, safer and more direct transit between the two beach areas, which will benefit people with reduced mobility and older people, as well as pushchairs.

“This is not another project. This is a response to real needs for residents and beach users,” Antequera said, pointing out that there is broad support locally and that town hall has worked long and hard to find an appropriate technical solution.

The town hall has confirmed that the project has all the necessary environmental authorisations, with favourable reports from the Junta de Andalucía, guaranteeing respect for the coastal environment.
