Malaga has been crowned Spain’s best city for pedestrians & cyclists in a study conducted by Buycycle.com. The results show that it is a great place for people who enjoy exploring the city on foot or two wheels.

According to the Observatory of Tourism in Spain, 69.2 % of tourists choose walking as their preferred mode of transport within city centers, showing that pedestrian friendly destinations are increasingly popular.

Malaga’s walkability is unsurpassed, and its entertainment options are endless. The study looked at factors like access to green space, hiking trails and cycling routes to ensure cities cater for active travellers. Malaga is a city that excels in terms of its green spaces (over 80%), hiking trails (128) and impressive cycling routes (2,163), which makes it perfect for visitors who want to stay active.

Zaragoza is ranked second in the list of top 20 cities for the number of walking routes. Visitors can easily stroll to landmarks like the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar or Parque Grande José Antonio Labordeta. Palma is ranked third with its 4,285 cycle routes and 64,9% green space, despite having fewer hiking trails.

Rounding out the top 10 are Gijón, Murcia, Barcelona, Madrid, Bilbao, Granada, and Elche. Malaga is a pedestrian’s paradise because of its combination of natural beauty and accessibility.
