7. You can eat your way through the city
A must-do when planning things to do in Malaga is trying the regional cuisine. You’ll find plenty of restaurants and bars where you can try everything from locally caught fresh sardines on skewers to ensalada Malagueña (potato salad with eggs, salt cod and various vegetables and flavourings) or Ajoblanco (a mouthwatering mix of garlic, olive oil, bread crumbs, vinegar, almonds and seasoning).
8. Beaches are calling
Playa Malagueta is a beautiful sandy beach that’s only a 10 minute walk from the centre of town. It has many bars and restaurants surrounding it. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a long day of sightseeing. You can choose to sunbathe on the beach, enjoy a dip in the Mediterranean Sea, or have a beer at a chiringuito (beachside bar).
9. Malaga Festival – Attend it!
This annual festival, which takes place in the month of March, celebrates Spanish film and attracts people from all over. Films are showcased throughout the city on giant screens and each costs around €5. You can practice your Spanish and some films will be shown in English.
10. Visit Malaga Fair
Malaga Fair: Another of the best activities to do in Malaga. This spectacular Fair is celebrated every August, and celebrates all things Andalusian. Malaga Fair is a great example of how the Spanish enjoy a good party. The celebrations include:
• music and dancing
• food stalls
• displays (including horse shows, flamenco and bullfighting)
• children’s activities (fun fair, magic shows, puppets, theatre)
• firework displays
In true Spanish fashion, many activities will go all night long.
