Summer is quickly approaching, and many Costa del Sol cities have confirmed the reopenings of beach footwashers and showers, indicating a return back to normality following restrictions on water.
Sources from the council in Mijas have confirmed that these facilities are to be operated with push-button timers of 15 seconds each, to conserve water. Benalmadena town council confirmed beach showers and feetwashers would function as intended, while Torremolinos equipped them with fluxometers that will stop the water flow upon release of buttons.
In Malaga, despite the fact that a final decision has not been made, it appears likely that there will be enough water to allow their use. In Rincón de la Victoria, only the footwashers will be in use, as maintenance and repair work needs to be carried out after the showers have been unused for so long.
Water restrictions have been eased following heavy rains in January that replenished reservoirs, and groundwater. The Costa del Sol now enjoys normal water levels, while Malaga city and Axarquía face moderate to severe shortages but still exceed typical consumption limits. Malaga is aiming to enjoy a high-season without restrictions, with daily consumption below 200 litres for each person, which is well under the 225-250-litre cap.
