Laura Chaplin, granddaughter of silent film legend Charlie Chaplin, will exhibit around twenty of her paintings for the first time in Spain at Gómez & Molina Jewellery in central Marbella.
The exhibition, entitled Laughter is Human Right, will run from July 5 through July 17, and mark the opening of a new art space at the store.
The Swiss-origin artist, who is of French descent, mixes figurative styles with pop and surrealist ones and focuses on three main themes, including horses, silhouettes of women, and her unmet grandfather. Her work pays homage to her grandfather’s iconic legacy, while also reflecting her unique artistic voice.
Laura’s creative endeavors go beyond painting. She also has a collection handbags and watches. She is a patron for charities such as Charlie’s Smile, Moi pour Toi, and Charlie’s Smile.
Marbella was chosen for her solo debut, and she praised its “fantastic lights” and cosmopolitan ambience. She said that Marbella “radiates joy and inspires smiling, which is exactly what I want.” I hope that my art will bring happiness, joy, and hope to others.
Marbella’s mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, welcomed Laura at the Town Hall, giving her gratitude for the choice of the city as the stage for the exhibition. Marbella has a rich history with the Chaplin family. “Events of this calibre not only enrich our cultural calendar but also confirm Marbella’s status as a unique showcase,” Muñoz stated.
The exhibition is free to the public and will be open daily from July 5 to July 17, from 11am to 8pm, at Gómez & Molina Jewellers’ art space on Avenida Ramón y Cajal, 15.
