A man has been arrested in Liverpool in connection with the murder of two Scottish men on the Costa del Sol just two weeks ago.
The deadly shooting took place on June 1st in Fuengirola. The main victim, Ross Monaghan, was a senior member of the Glasgow-based Lyons crime clan. A second victim, also linked to the Lyons clan, was killed in the attack, and one more person was left seriously injured.
The suspect, who is believed to belong to the rival Daniels gang, managed to flee Spain shortly after the shooting. According to investigators, he escaped via Portugal and traveled to the UK.
Following a fast-moving investigation led by the Spanish National Police in Málaga, British authorities were alerted. In a coordinated international operation, UK police arrested the suspect in Liverpool during the early hours of Saturday. He has now been transferred to London and placed in judicial custody while extradition proceedings begin.
The Spanish investigation was overseen by Commissioner Pedro Agudo, who praised the close cooperation between Spanish and British law enforcement agencies.
This case once again highlights the presence of organised crime networks from the UK operating on the Costa del Sol, using Spain as a base for their international activities.
