Weather warnings of yellow color are in effect as Storm Regina brings rain and strong wind to Spain.

After a period of rare dry weather in Spain, Storm Regina, which is expected to affect several regions this week with strong winds, maritime storms, and fresh rain, will return unsettled temperatures. Spain’s weather agency. AEMETAs the Atlantic system approaches, a yellow warning has been activated in some parts of the country.
Regina, the new storm system that is classified as the 17th major storm of the spring, arrives as meteorological Spring begins. For many areas, where the skies had been calmer for a short time, this change will be evident.
AEMET warns about strong winds and storms along the coast of Spain
According to AEMETRegina will mostly affect the Canary Islands as well as large portions of the south and east of mainland Spain. She will bring strong wind gusts, rough sea conditions, and very high temperatures.
Yellow warnings are in effect for several regions, including those located to the south, north and east. Wind gusts could reach up to 70km/h in parts of Andalucía, the Valencian Community and Galicia, creating potentially hazardous conditions, particularly in exposed coastal and elevated areas.
The sea conditions in coastal areas are expected to worsen as well.
Rain is returning to the Mediterranean coast after Tuesday
The European ECMWF weather model predicts that rainfall will reach the Mediterranean coast starting on Tuesday, February 3.
Regions expected to see rain include Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Murcia and parts of Andalucía. In Catalonia local meteorological service has suggested that rainfall will mostly affect coastal and precoastal regions, especially in the northern- and southern-most extremes.
The rain is expected to be light with only modest accumulations. However, conditions could feel different after a relative week of stability.
Catalonia has a short break after months and months of rain
Regina’s arrival comes after a rare break in the wet weather Weather. Catalonia experienced its first dry week-end in over six months. The last rain-free weekend was in early September. This ended a streak of 24 consecutive weekends where there had been rainfall somewhere around the region.
The persistent high-pressure systems brought temporary calm, giving residents a break from months of Atlantic storms.

Although rainfall is not expected to reach extreme levels, coastal conditions and strong winds remain a major concern, particularly for southern and eastern Spain.
