Holidays can be stressful. The holidays can be a lot. This can make it all seem overwhelming and stressful. Don’t panic if you start to feel like your Christmas is going downhill. You can stay grounded and enjoy the holiday season while protecting your mental and emotional wellbeing. Here are a few tips to get your life back on track.
Eat well
It’s true that Christmas food is delicious, but it doesn’t necessarily mean its healthy. The food you eat has a big impact on your energy and mood. It is not uncommon to feel sluggish and irritable following a day filled with indulgence. Try eating a balanced meal to clear your mind and keep you going through the holiday season.
Drink less
Alcohol is no exception. Alcohol is a common part of many holiday celebrations. Socially, it is acceptable to crack a can of beer first thing on Christmas morning. Take advantage of this. Alcohol can make you feel jolly but it can also bring you down.
Consider switching to non-alcoholic alternatives if you find that alcohol is affecting your energy levels or stress levels. You can still have fun without a hangover by drinking chocolate drinks, fruity mocktails or sparkling water.
List everything, and check it twice
Your To-Do List is the real hero at Christmas. You can reduce stress by planning ahead. List everything that you need to accomplish, from meal preparation to gift shopping. Break down larger tasks into smaller and more manageable steps.
Allow yourself enough time to finish each item. You will feel incredibly satisfied when you cross items off your to-do list.
Enjoy yourself
You can’t give to others if you aren’t able to give yourself. It’s not selfish to take some “me time”. In fact, it is essential. Even a short time to read a novel, go for a walk, or get to bed earlier can help you recharge.
Enjoy the holidays. Avoid burnout by eating well, planning ahead and taking care yourself.
