Spanish tourist dies of rabies after dog bite on African trip in Valencia hospital


A 44 YEAR OLD man passed away on Friday, after contracting rabies in July 2024 from a bite of a dog while visiting Ethiopia.

He was taken to the hospital in Bilbao, where he died.

The latest case in Valencia became public on Thursday when the patient’s condition was described as ‘poorly’ in the ICU of the Valencia Clinical Hospital.

He was not vaccinated and his rabies test came back positive on 29 May.

Before that, he had visited his doctor a few times as he developed symptoms related to rabies such as nausea, fever and mood swings.

Hydrophobia (an inability to tolerate water) was the first sign of his serious condition.
