The heat alert portal helps vulnerable people—including older adults, those with health conditions, and families with young children—stay informed and safe during heatwaves.
This service gives a forecast for three days of temperatures above normal, tailored to the province.
The alert system provides information on demand about each of the zones, 182 in total, that the government has divided the country into. Many of these zones are composed of municipalities located in different provinces.
The British Embassy cites an example in which 30C would not trigger an alarm in Sevilla but in Oviedo it might, as alerts are based upon what is considered to be extreme for each area.
Four risk levels are based on increasing health risks from temperature increases. Each level has a colour code.
From the lowest level (no-risk) to the highest (red), there is a progression of levels.
