Karla Gascon from SPAIN will be attending the Oscars this Sunday in Los Angeles, despite the dispute over offensive social media posts she made.
Gascon, a Madrid-based actress, has been nominated as Best Leading Actress in the Spanish Language Musical-Drama Emilia Perez for her performance.
Netflix pulled her out of their pre-Oscars Campaign after her racist tweets and offensive comments resurfaced. Gascon has also not attended recent award shows in the US and UK.

She said that she was being made a victim of ‘cancel culture’.
Netflix have now agreed to pay her expenses but its not clear whether she will walk the red carpet and do interviews, or sit near her co-stars Zoe Saldaña and Selena Gomez plus director Jacques Audiard.
Gascon will also attend the Cesar Awards this Friday in Paris.
Penelope Cruz, the first Spanish actress nominated for an Oscars Best Actress award.
Gascon is also the first transgender actor to have been nominated for this prestigious statuette.
Her Oscars campaign has been ruined after the publicisation of her controversial social media posts. She expressed views about George Floyd, Muslims and diversity.
She did not attend the Critics Choice Awards or the BAFTA Film Awards.
Gascon made a public statement in the days following the publication of the tweets.
She said: “I would like to apologize for the hurtful comments that I have received on my social media posts in the past.”
“As a member of a marginalized group, I understand this pain all too well. I’m deeply sorry for any hurt I may have caused.”
“I’ve fought all my life for a more peaceful world. She concluded, “I think light will always prevail over darkness.”
Tweets aside, there is little chance that Gascon will win on Sunday. Demi, for her role as the star of the horror movie The Substance (which involves a body change), seems to be the favourite.
