Spain’s flamingo paradise: Discover Fuente de Piedra’s art & nature in Malaga


DO you like flamingos? You should visit a town near Malaga if you like flamingos!

Fuente de Piedra, located 35 miles north of Malaga, has many real flamingos and some funny imitations.

The wild birds are huddled together in the vast lake that borders the town.

Take the A-92 from Malaga or Sevilla to Fuente de Piedra. Flamingos don’t just fly anymore: they also wave, cook and ride motorcycles.

Welcome to the new tourism project Pa’ flamenco, mi pueblo (Flamingo is my town), which transforms town centre into a pedestrian promenade full of art, humor, and biodiversity.

The largest wetland of Andalucia attracts thousands of visitors every year. Many come for the very first time or to return and enjoy the birds.

The largest flamingo colonies on the Iberian Peninsula can be found in the Laguna de Fuente de Piedra Nature Reserve.

Fuente de Piedra has another attraction, the Giant Bench. It measures 2.3 metres tall by 4 metres wide and is ideal for taking a group or family photo.

“This idea was born in order to highlight our natural heritage because we’re fortunate to have Laguna de Fuente de Piedra. We also wanted to highlight our cultural, artistic, festive, and other heritages. The route is a visual, creative connection between the lagoon and the town center.

Pachon also made it clear that this initiative is ‘a starting point’ for continuing to advance this line of actions that promote the town, as well as other initiatives in this area such as the new Tourist Office and, of course, the restoration of rail transport, which Fuente de Piedra has
