As problems worsen, the UIP branch of SUP police union expressed its anger towards the Interior Ministry.

A source told El Mundo“We can’t understand why our Ministry will not send us to the areas that are most affected by the drug trade to work with colleagues on the ground.”

UIP vehicles allow them to reach areas with low water flow, which are hard to access for conventional units because of the terrain. These areas are popular for narcoboats.

These criminal organisations are displaying weapons of warfare and resources that are far superior than those of the State Security Forces and Corps which serve in demarcation”, stated the SUP union.

“It’s urgent to strengthen police units with UIP agents who have, among their missions, the prevention and maintenance of citizen safety, and the restoration of that security, and actions in situations of declared alert police, for the commission or crimes of a common criminal nature, or terrorist, as well the establishment of controls, and other police devices.”
