Spring shift starts around the end of March

Meteorologists say that it is impossible to make precise predictions this far in advance, because spring brings unpredictable weather patterns. Early trends in the European model indicate that anticyclonic blockade or Atlantic ridges may dominate. This could be related to a wavy polar jet. The temperatures may be a little below average along the Mediterranean coastline, particularly in the northeastern regions of the nation. The majority of the Spanish Peninsula and Balearics do not show any major deviations from this warm pattern.

Tourism boost expected despite uncertainty

Recent seasonal forecasts favor warmer-than-normal Conditions are favorable across the majority of the peninsula, especially in the Balearics (70%). In some long-range forecasts, Northern Europe is likely to experience a cooler spring. This makes Spain more appealing for city exploration or beach holidays. Many people who originally considered escaping to the Middle East now change their plans to safer southern Europe.

Variations across Spain

Coastal and southern spots like Andalucia will see highs around 23°C, offering plenty pleasant conditions. Interior cities such as Madrid, Valladolid, or Cuenca average 16-18°C max, feeling a little fresher. Northern areas remain cooler as expected. Rain appears in 70 to 80 per cent probability of historical Easters Showers are expected to fall across a large area of the country this week. No one knows where yet.

Can we visit the beaches?

The southern and eastern coasts will be warm enough to enjoy a beach walk or a light dip, especially if the anticyclonic pattern holds. The water is still chilly, but temperatures in the mid-20s and low teens are ideal for relaxed excursions. Layers are best for the evenings. Northern Europeans will need a light jacket. Even on warmer days, you can expect cool nights with possible rain. Pack waterproofs for Easter procession waiting outside.

Expect minimal travel disruption

At this point, the weather is unlikely to cause major travel disruptions. Spring weather can be unpredictable, and rain may slow down roads or impact outdoor events. However, travel is rarely affected by spring variability. Updates will be available closer to the date. The passport stamping process for travellers from outside the Schengen Area is over.

Spain’s Easter blend of tradition and spring weather makes for a memorable experience. As the Easter week approaches, keep an eye on AEMET, Spain’s official weather agency.
