Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz to face arch-rival Jannik Sinner in third successive Wimbledon final

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz faces arch-rival Jannik Siner in third consecutive Wimbledon Final

Carlos Alcaraz, the reigning Wimbledon champion, secured his place in SW19’s third consecutive final after a four-set victory over Taylor Fritz (no.5) on Friday.

The world’s No.2 Jannik Sinner will take on the world’s No.1 Jannik Snider in Sunday’s finale. This is a thrilling replay of last month’s French Open Final, which has been hailed by many as one the greatest Grand Slam matches ever after the Spaniard managed a hardly-believeable comeback in order to win the championship.

Alcaraz delivered a professional performance in defeating his American opponents, hitting high quality shots along the way, much to the delight a packed out Centre Court audience bathing 32C sun.

It was really a difficult match. The conditions were really hot, and it was a tough match,” the 22 year old Spaniard said to the crowd after the match.

He said: “I was just happy to save two set-points in four sets. I am very proud of the way I kept my cool. I’m really happy with my performance.

Alcaraz has won 24 consecutive matches.

Alcaraz, the Italian, will face a sour Sunday after he swept past Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam-winning tennis player, with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. This match was symbolic of a new era in the sport of tennis.

A win would make Alcaraz just the fifth man to win three successive Wimbledon titles – even if the man himself is not thinking about that right now.

“I don’t want to be thinking about Sunday. I only want to concentrate on the present moment,” he stated.
