Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz could pocket whopping €5m if he wins two ‘exhibition’ matches

THE world’s number one tennis player, Carlos Alcaraz, will be battling it out in Saudi Arabia this week to win the sport’s biggest financial prize- €5m.

The Six Kings Slam will take place in Riyadh for the second time. Although players have complained about the tennis schedule being too busy, they still found the time to increase their bank accounts towards the end.

Alcaraz (22), from El Palmar Murcia, trained at home in the last two weeks following his victory at the Japan Open.

He had a left ankle injury and chose to miss the Masters 1000 in Shanghai.

The Riyadh organisers give €1.2 million to each of the six players- just for turning up.

They then hand out an extra €3.8 million to the event winner.

Alcaraz, Djokovic and others are exempted from the semi-finals if they have won the most Grand Slams.

So for winning just two matches, either could fly home with €5 million.

The Wednesday quarterfinals will be played between Alexander Zverev, Taylor Fritz then Jannik Siner and Stefanos Tissipas who will replace the injured Jack Draper.

The semi-finals and final, plus the third and fourth places decider will be played Saturday.

As the ATP doesn’t allow players to play exhibition games over three consecutive nights, they must rest on Friday.

Alcaraz will play the winner of Zverev and Fritz in the semifinals.

The remainder of the Spaniard’s schedule includes the Paris-Bercy Masters 1000 from October 27 to November 2, the ATP Finals at Turin (November 16 to 19) and Spain’s Davis Cup Finals at Bologna, which will take place between November 18 to 23.
