SPAIN is a popular destination for retirees in the UK, Germany and France, as well as many other European nations. But according to a recent study, it’s also ranked among the top five countries for American retirees.
Global Intelligence Unit conducted the study. They compared variables including weather, taxes and acceptance of migrants.
Spain was ranked first on the index, surpassing Portugal, Costa Rica, and Uruguay.
The low cost of living and excellent quality of life in this country, as well as the good public and private health care systems, and visas to be able to move to that area, are all reasons why it scored so highly.

The report suggests that Madrid is one of the most popular choices for American retirees, ‘known for its long history and culture’, and praised for its relatively low cost of living.
It suggests that a single person can live in the capital for around $2000 to $2500 USD per month – the equivalent of €1,765 to €2,207.
It’s important to remember that this figure may be too low, given the rising cost of living in Spain.
Official data shows that the number of Americans residing in Spain increased by 10,000.
