A rare spell of cooler weather is set to sweep across much of Spain this weekend, offering welcome relief after weeks of stifling heat — just as the UK braces for a blistering heatwave with temperatures hitting 40C.
From Thursday to Sunday, a significant drop in temperatures will affect nearly all provinces in Andalucía, with Saturday forecast to be up to 7C cooler than average.
The temperature in the inland areas is expected to stay below 30C. At night, temperatures may fall to below 20C and as low as 15C for mountainous zones. Residents will be able to sleep comfortably again after weeks.

The only exceptions will be the Costa del Sol and the coast of Almería, where conditions will be milder but still warmer than elsewhere.
The European continent is once again on the verge of extreme heat.
Temperature anomalies up to +8C across the continent are expected in the next few days. This raises serious concerns about the dwindling reservoirs of water and the risks for inland water transportation as the drought conditions worsen.

Meteorologists have warned that these extremes do not represent an outlier, but rather a sign of a climate shift.
Before 2022, the UK’s forecast models never included 40C. The record-breaking 40.3,C heatwave of 19 July 2022 changed all that.
This weekend may bring a short-lived respite to southern Spain — but the wider trend points to a new climate reality across Europe, where intense and prolonged heatwaves are fast becoming the norm.
