Sky has announced the end of its £290 Sky Live camera, confirming that the interactive add-on for Sky Glass TVs will stop working on December 4 2025. Every customer who purchased the device – either outright or in instalments – will receive a full refund, in what’s being called one of the company’s largest-ever consumer reimbursements.
Sky Live has been cancelled
Sky’s Sky Live Camera, which only lasted a few months, promised to usher in a new era for smart TVs with Glass. This would include motion gaming, fitness trackers and live video calls. The company decided to stop selling the product after only two years and refund any buyers.
Refunds of up to £290 will be processed automatically to the payment method used.
Sky will refund all payments made by customers who purchased the monthly plan and cancel any future payments.
Sky suggests recycling the devices using Sky’s pre-paid labels.
Sky only refunds purchases that are made directly with them, and not on second-hand items.
Sky Live users received the announcement on November 4 and have one month to prepare before their service is shut down.
Why it matters to consumers
Sky Glass users across Europe and the UK are relieved and surprised by the news. Sky’s products are also relied upon by British expats abroad. This refund is a rare instance of a major provider providing a complete payment, rather than compensation in phases.
Sky’s decision reflects the changing priorities of tech and media companies, as they pivot away from niche products towards digitally-first services. Analysts believe the move reflects a shift in focus from “experimental gadgets” to “content and connectivity.”
The company will offer affected customers a 12-month free subscription to Mvmnt Fitness app. However, it does not include the motion-tracking camera that Sky Live used to provide.
Sky Live Refunds – How to claim them
What’s the good news? No need to take any action. Most customers will receive their refunds within a couple of weeks.
What you need to know about:
- Refunds are made directly to the original payment methods.
- Sky encourages its users to recycle their devices responsibly.
- Check your account. The refund you receive may be deducted from any balance due to Sky.
- Beware of scams – Sky has confirmed it will not ask for personal details via text or email.
On the website, you can find information about recycling and official updates. Sky Community page.
What’s next in store for Sky customers
Sky says its decision was driven by “customer focus and simplicity,” and insists no other products — including Sky Glass or Sky Stream — are affected. The company intends to focus on improving the TV, broadband and apps ecosystems in lieu of hardware accessories.
For Sky Live owners, the main advice is simple: sit tight, wait for your refund, and don’t be tempted by resale listings online – after December 4, the camera will be an expensive paperweight.
