Sharkey, an Irish painter who is one of the most popular painters in Europe today, will soon open his first Malaga gallery.
He is currently one of Ireland’s most collectable living artists having sold already over 10,000 paintings in just the last few years, and has been described by many in the Irish press as ‘Ireland’s first superstar artist’ and ‘a phenomenon’. The Sunday Times Money section advised its readers to ‘bank on this artist’, while the Irish Independent called him ‘an Irish legend’, and Sky News in the UK called him ‘a genius’. The I Newspaper claimed ‘he will be the next Jean-Michel Basquiat’.
In 2005, RTE aired a documentary about his art. It was a hit at both his Ibiza and Dublin homes. The Sunday Times as well as Irish Arts Review noted the art’s potential for investment, noting that its value had increased by 400 percent in just three years.
Sharkey’s work is unorthodox, unusual and unlike anything else. He is self-taught and has developed his unique style, which is now recognized worldwide.
In his 63rd year, he has three galleries in three different countries, all dedicated to his art. The first is in Portugal at Quinta do lago. The second is in Dublin (where he was also born) and the third will be in Malaga on 27th February.
The Sharkey Gallery Malaga opens to the public on Thursday, February 27 in Calle Marín García 3, in central Malaga, near Calle Larios.
