SHACKLETON International School of Burjassot is a Valencian school that has just reached a milestone. It joined the global IB World Schools network.
Sixth-form students in Years 12-13 will have the opportunity to study IB DP (International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme) starting in September 2026.
The school leadership views this as more important than an academic achievement. Head of IB Alicia Ocón, supported by the secondary teaching team, led the extensive authorisation process, which involved curriculum designing, teacher training, and engagement with the wider school community.
Their dedication is the foundation of what will be a transformational chapter for students.
The IB Diploma Programme was designed to encourage intellectual development while challenging students. Students also take part in the extended essay, Theory of Knowledge, Creativity, Activities, Service (CAS), and a wide range of other subjects.

These elements encourage the students to ask complex questions, to connect their learning with real-life issues, and to contribute positively to the community.
The IB is distinguished by its balance between academic rigor and the development of essential life skills. Graduates not only leave with a qualification that is recognized by top universities around the world, but with resilience, curiosity and an international perspective, which prepares them for life outside of the classroom.
Shackleton believes that the IB is a perfect complement to its philosophy. The school serves students from more than 50 different nationalities. It also places an emphasis on wellbeing, belonging, and inclusion. Shackleton’s implementation of the IB Diploma reinforces their commitment to nurturing academically competent, emotionally intelligent and global-minded students.
The school is committed to making the IB experience inspiring and engaging, in addition to academic excellence. Students will be given the opportunity to learn leadership skills, take part in collaborative learning and participate in community-focused projects. This will ensure that their education goes beyond the classroom, preparing them for an ever-changing world.
Shackleton is now offering a world-class educational experience without the need to leave Valencia. It opens the doors to universities around Europe and beyond.
Parents and potential students are invited to the school to meet the staff and learn how the IB Diploma will inspire them to reach their fullest potential.
