Seve Balesteros’s five-time Major winner and life-sized statue, Seve the Ballesteros (a golf legend), has disappeared from his hometown.

The Spanish town of Seve Ballesteros is missing a LIFE-SIZED Statue of the golf legend. 

The statue that commemorated five-time major winners who died in 2011 from brain cancer at the age of 54 has disappeared from Pedrena, in northern Spain. 

Ballesteros was a key player in Europe’s four Ryder Cup victories. He also served as the captain of the team. The statue represents the moment when he celebrated the Open Championship victory at St Andrews back in 1984.

Ballesteros trailed Tom Watson by two shots in the final rounds of this Championship. He managed to pull off a remarkable comeback and win the Claret Jug. Ballesteros denied Watson the chance to win a third consecutive Open.

The statue was installed permanently in La Barqueria Park since 2009, and it has marked the career one of Spain’s most prolific golfers. 

Having lost the statue from Cantabria, the council is searching for it’s location.

They have stated that “if anyone has noticed suspicious movements in the past 24 hours or more, please notify the Guardia Civil and the Policia Local.”
