Buba is a black-and-white ruffed lemur who just celebrated her 13th birthday in Estepona at Selwo Aventura. This happy lemur is not just a favourite with visitors, but represents a critically endangered species in the wild.
Buba’s keepers prepared a special birthday feast for him. Buba, surrounded by lemurs, including ringtail lemurs, and a Mayotte brown lemur named Juanita, ate a spread of fruit, leaves, nectar, and seeds. He was a vegetarian and had plenty to eat.
Buba, according to the team at Selwo Adventures, is one of their most beloved animals. The deforestation of Madagascar’s native black and white lemur and the loss of its habitat pose serious threats to this species. It is listed as critically threatened on the Red List of International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Selwo Aventura has a vital role to play in raising awareness of endangered species and supporting conservation. The park wants to connect people to wildlife through stories like Buba and inspire them to take action to protect all animals.
Buba, according to the team, is in great health and continues thriving with the rest of his lemur family. Buba’s friends can be seen by visitors to the park in their native habitat, which is a replica of Buba’s natural environment.
