Malaga is on the verge of achieving its dream of a luxurious marina akin to Puerto Banús, as the Port Authority has given final approval to the San Andrés marina project.
This administrative step removes a major hurdle from the construction of the luxury nautical complex. It also gives a more precise completion date and is backed by investors who are behind the planned skyscraper at the Levante dock, which will be 147 metres high.
The San Andrés marina is expected to take two years to complete, and it is hoped to be up and running by late 2027. The marina will have over 500 berths including superyachts of up to 50 meters. It is expected to transform Malaga’s urban landscape.
The project aligns with other developments, such as the concert auditorium, the El Bulto residential complex, and a 9,000-square-metre office hub by Merlin Properties and the Nieto family office, all in walking distance to Malaga’s María Zambrano railway station, a key gateway from the Costa del Sol capital to Madrid in under 3 hours.
A consortium led by Al Alfia, an entity linked to Qatar’s royal house, Igy Marinas & Ocean Capital Partners has been tasked with bringing the highest level of luxury to the area. This includes the addition of brands such as Louis Vuitton & Gucci and some of the most luxurious dining.
The marina will serve as a social hub, while a tourist wharf and 45-metre ferris wheel aim to increase the site‘s appeal as a tourist attraction.
