It’s panto time once again at the Salón Varietés Theatre in Fuengirola, where the audience is invited to climb into a fairy-tale world of towering beanstalks, a magical land above the clouds and a daring boy who outwits a fearsome giant. The annual pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk will be performed at the Theatre to celebrate the festive season. This production is directed by Keith Spitalnick and danced by Alexandra Avery.
Expect a magical journey filled with traditional music, stunning costumes, and slapstick humor. The audience will be encouraged to sing along, and is expected to become part of the cast.
Jack and the Beanstalk may be the best-known of the Jack tales, a series that features a country boy who sells the family’s cow to get a handful magical beans. His mother is horrified. The beans turn into a huge beanstalk, reaching high into the sky. Jack climbs it and finds a road that leads to a house where he meets an ogre. An ogre is a hideous humanoid, large and ugly, who likes to eat children and infants.
The show is filled with all the familiar characters, such as the dame, Jack’s mother, and the princess. Of course, there is also the pantomime antagonist, the ogre. He has become famous for his Feefi-fofum…
The show will be performed every evening from Friday 19 to Tuesday 23 December at 7.30pm (except on Sundays). There will also be matinees of 2pm Saturday and Sunday. The pantomime returns for its final run after a short break over Christmas. It will be at the same time every day from Friday 2 to Monday 5 January.
Tickets cost 25 euros and are available from www.salonvarietestheatre.com or from the theatre’s box office between 11am and 2.30pm Monday to Friday.
