The Sabor a Málaga fair returns once again to the Paseo del Parque in the city during the long holiday weekend with record participation. From Thursday, 4 December to Tuesday, 9 December, 120 producers representing 45 municipalities in the province will offer their products to both locals and tourists. Directly from the producers, you can purchase more than 2,000 artisanal products. Opening hours are 11am-9pm.
President of the provincial authority (Diputación), Francisco Salado, announced the programme for the six-day fair, where there will be a gastronomic area featuring Alejandra Catering, El Ambigú de La Térmica, Kraken, Lígula, Hacienda Alakrán, Bendita Katalina and La Bocaná, plus workshops, tastings, live cookery demonstrations and musical performances. There will be theme days for adults, teens and children. Zamora will be the guest province for this year’s festival.
The Diputación’s leader stressed that this fair “is a magnificent sales and business opportunity for producers and also a buying opportunity for the people of Malaga and visitors, who will have access to products of extraordinary quality that are not always easy to buy in cities”.
“These producers are small and mid-sized, usually family-run businesses that work very hard to run their businesses and contribute to creating wealth and employment in their towns and villages, and, therefore, retaining the people in these rural regions,” he said.
Seven restaurants serving traditional Malaga food will be part of the fair.
Thursday, 4 December. Senior Citizens’ Day
The senior citizens of the Province will be among the guests of honor on the first fair day. While the Diputación, thanks to its ‘Bringing Christmas to Our Seniors’ programme, will offer them the opportunity to visit the fair on all six days, Thursday will be the day dedicated to the older generations and the Eduardo Ocón Auditorium will be the epicentre of the activities.
The programme will start with performances of participants of La Mayor Estrella – the talent contest that is held throughout the province by the Provincial Authority and features talented people older than 65. The elderly will be able to watch cooking demonstrations.
The fun continues with tastings of ‘Malcocinao’ (literally meaning ‘badly cooked’, but it’s a pork and chickpea stew), a typical Malaga dish served at lunchtime, the Senior Citizens’ Day raffle, with numerous generous prizes, a hot chocolate party and the day’s proceedings will involve a ‘zambombá’, a traditional Christmastime flamenco performance by María Cortés. Then, there’s the calle Larios light show and Malaga Cathedral.
The agrifood industry is eagerly anticipating the live broadcast of “Tarde para Todos” and the award ceremony of the best Malaga wines and cheeses in 2025. The day will then be rounded off with a grand flamenco zambombá by the Ortigosa Brothers.
Friday, December 5 Zamora, guest province
Each year, the day that this fair is held will feature a Spanish province known for its rich gastronomic heritage. Zamora’s turn will be Friday, when it arrives in Malaga under the ‘Zamora Quality’ brand. Zamora will arrive in Malaga on Friday with its ‘Zamora is Quality’ branding.
The day’s events will be concluded by illusionist Miguel de Lucas’ performance of ‘Zamora, under the eclipse,’ a stage play inspired by the 2026 astronomical event.
Saturday, 6 December. Saturday 6 December.
The Saturday begins with a performance by the children’s theater company Peneque el Valiente. This will be followed by workshops on bread, honey and olive oil for little ones, as well as a class on Malaga cheeses paired to local wines.
The afternoon will feature a zambombá performance by Rocío Alba and a tour of Christmas flavours by confectioners Mayte Sánchez and Dora Ortiz. The day will also include a panel discussion on sports nutrition with the Málaga 91 Sports Club and a demonstration of festive appetisers by chef Elías Tang.
Sunday, 7th December. Sunday 7 December.
The focus of Sunday’s program will be on cooking workshops. First thing in the morning, children can participate in a baking workshop and drop off their letters to the Three Kings in the magical letterbox provided by Sabor a Málaga.
The lunch will be hamburgers prepared with local ingredients, followed by an artisan bread making workshop led by Miguel Urbaneja, and a tour of the best Malaga cured meats. The afternoon will conclude with a sampling of craft beers produced in the province.
Monday, 8 December. Youth Day
This time it’s for those who are not children anymore. The day will include tastings, and the young attendees are encouraged to register at designated locations in order to collect museum tickets, free tastings, and gifts.
The Popi Ham Carving Competition will be held on Monday, as a qualifying event for the Barcelona final 2026. The workshop is open to amateur enthusiasts, and there will be hundreds of portions donated for charity.
The afternoon will feature a free concert by the band Nohe, finalists in the Emmerge Málaga competition, and Encarni Navarro. Young people can also participate in an amateur cooking competition and the Málaga CF interactive challenge with prizes and surprises.
Tuesday, 9 December. Closing ceremony – a celebration of culture, gastronomy
The fair will close on Tuesday with the Sabor a Málaga’s showcasing of new products from producers. The products that are expected to be the trendsetters for 2026 will be presented.
There will be a roundtable discussion on gastronomy and social media, a luncheon honouring bloggers and content creators and performances by such as Castañuelas Rosas and a grand flamenco evening show with María Cortés.
La Xenon will perform a monologue of comedy to close the fair, which attracts thousands every year.
“In short, from this Thursday until next Tuesday the Gran Feria Sabor a Málaga will be held in the Paseo del Parque. Salado said that this is an excellent opportunity to get local products, of exceptional quality and sustainability, for Christmas.
New campaign honours producers
Taking advantage of the Michelin Gala being held in Malaga, with the presence of the best chefs and sommeliers from all over Spain, the Diputación has just launched a new promotional campaign to pay tribute to the efforts of all those farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen who work hard to bring the best products of the province to our tables.
Salado said, “It is hard work but it’s done with great care. The result is top-notch, high-quality products highly valued by Malaga’s residents and visitors as well as the best chefs in the world”.
The ‘The Effort that Unites Us” campaign aims to promote the purchase and consumption of local agricultural products during the upcoming holidays as well as throughout the entire year. This is an important strategy to combat depopulation and boost the local economy.
