RYANAIR is increasing the size of the free carry on bag it offers to all passengers, following a dispute over Spanish authorities.
Starting in early September 2025 on the basic fare, passengers can bring onboard a bag up to 40 cm x 30 cm x 20cm at no additional cost.
This new allowance has been increased by 33% in volume, and it is designed to fit beneath the seat in your front. However, there will still be a 10kg weight limit.

In order to adapt, the airline has installed bigger baggage sizers throughout its network of 235 European Airports.
Priority Boarding is still required for passengers who want to bring in a second larger bag.
After the Spanish Ministry of Consumer Affairs sanctioned Ryanair, it changed its policy after its restrictive baggage rules were reduced to those of Easyjet and Vueling.

Dara Brady confirmed the news, saying, “Our free carry-on is now 33% bigger than the EU standard.” He warned that any passenger who did not adhere to the new generous limit would be required to pay the check-in fees at the boarding gates.
Tensions between the Spanish authorities and this customer-friendly initiative remain. Recently, the airline announced a reduction in winter seats of 1 million on its routes in Spain. It cited what it called high airport tax charges from operator Aena.
