Resurfacing works AP-7 – prepare for delays

The AP-7 between Fuengirola & Marbella has been affected by partial lane closings.

It is possible that drivers who are unfamiliar with signage or the current schedule may become confused and end up affecting their daily commutes.

Commuters driving from Fuengirola into Marbella could be delayed if a lane closes for resurfacing. The restrictions are in effect from 7am-8pm Monday through Friday. This may force drivers to use reduced lanes, or to find alternate routes, especially for those who rely heavily on the AP-7 to travel regularly.

The resurfacing works, which began September 9, 2025 are expected to continue for three month and be completed by Christmas when traffic is at its peak. The project, which covers a stretch of 29 kilometres, follows another effort completed in June 2025 from Marbella to Estepona.

Depending on the traffic volume and the construction area, the lane closures could increase travel times by 10-30 minutes. Ausol, operator of the motorway, has installed proper signage that will guide drivers. However, delays may occur during rush hours. The €3.8 million project, which has been fully funded by Ausol, the company which manages the toll road, uses advanced micro-agglomerate layers to improve road safety and tyre grip without generating debris. To minimise delays, drivers are encouraged to check the weekly schedule of lane closures and plan ahead for possible delays.

Prepare yourself for delays if you are planning to attend an appointment along the Costa del Sol. According to reports, the presence of construction did not affect toll rates.
