Marbella is preparing to turn pink again on November 16 as it hosts the 13th edition of the ‘Marea Rosa’ (Pink Tide) charity run, organised by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC).
The local council is supporting the event, which aims to raise community awareness of breast cancer prevention and increase participation from last year’s over 3,000 participants.
It is a great way to bring a festive mood to Marbella and promote physical activity, which can be a powerful tool in early detection and for good health. In line with AECC’s national campaign “Nos lo tomamos a pechoThe plan, “We Take it to Heart”, aims to humanise breast cancer by raising awareness about the emotional and practical difficulties faced by those who are diagnosed with the disease and their families.
Charity run Marea Rosa, non-competitive. Start at 11am
The 4-kilometre non-competitive run After a warm-up group led by a personal coach starting at 11am, the race will start at noon. The organizers are still finalising the route. The Adolfo Suarez Convention Center is out because of ongoing renovations. All proceeds will go towards AECC’s local programs, such as physiotherapy for patients, psychological support and specialised workshop.
This event is occurring at a time when sobering statistics are being released. AECC’s Cancer ObservatoryIn 2024 the Malaga Province recorded 1283 new cases of breast cancer, placing it second for Andalusia in terms of incidence, and sixth nationally, behind Madrid and Barcelona. Breast cancer remains the leading cause of cancer in women across the country, with 36,000 annual diagnoses.
