Desvelar la realidad, (or ‘Unveil Reality’) is an exhibition paying tribute to Spanish realist art featuring influential figurative artists from the past 60 years.
Organised by Estepona council and curated by María Toral, the exhibition boasts 81 works showing paintings, drawings, and sculptures, sourced from prestigious institutions like the Reina Sofía National Museum, Fundación Ávila, Fundación Sorigué, Fundación Azcona, private collections, and artists’ families.
One of the highlights is ‘Frentes y perfiles’ an unpublished piece by Antonio López. Crafted with oil, pencil, and collage on tracing paper, the work marks its first public unveiling, showing López as a cornerstone of contemporary Spanish art.
The exhibition traces the evolution of Spanish figurative art from 1956 to 2021, featuring luminaries like Cristóbal Toral, Esperanza Parada, Amalia Avia, Julio López, Francisco López, María Moreno, Carmen Laffón, Isabel Quintanilla, and José Hernández.
The collection is diverse, with human figures, interiors, landscapes and still-lifes. It features a variety of techniques and styles, all united by an unwavering commitment to modern, accurate expression. This is the first time such a comprehensive gathering of Spain’s realist masters has come to Andalucía, presenting a rare glimpse into their meticulous artistry and lasting legacy.
Unveiling Reality The exhibition takes you on a journey through the six decades of Spanish Realism. With its minute precision, it demonstrates the impact that this style has had on modern art.
From March 28 to July, the exhibition will be on display at Centro Cultural Mirador del Carmen Estepona.
