Marcus Rashford, a Manchester United loanee who has been confirmed for a season-long period of time, is now in Barcelona. The 27-year old forward arrived in Spain on Sunday and completed his medical tests on Monday. His official debut is expected this week.
The loan deal includes a purchase option, reportedly around €30 million, giving Barcelona the choice to make the transfer permanent next summer. Rashford’s salary will be covered by the Spanish club for the duration of his loan. The move shows that Hansi Flick has a lot of confidence in Rashford.
Rashford, who impressed despite setbacks in his injury recovery during a brief stint at Aston Villa on loan after inconsistent performances at Manchester United as well as a short spell at Manchester United’s left wing, is expected to be able to add strength to Barcelona’s left wing options. He is the first Englishman to sign with Barcelona since Gary Lineker, in 1986. Barcelona is still working on the financial fair play regulations for his registration, even though the agreement between the clubs has been finalised. It could be a player sale or a salary adjustment, but it is expected to resolve before the start of the league season.
Barcelona plans to include Rashford as part of their upcoming Asia pre-season tour, where fans will expect to see his debut in Blaugrana colours.
