Primera RFEF: Antequera CF claim three points from rescheduled fixture to revive promotion push

Primera RFEF – Antequera CF reschedules fixture and wins three points to revive promotion bid

All Malaga sides of Spain’s third-tier league have caught up after weeks of disruptions caused by recent storms. This is thanks to a rare midweek match.

Antequera CF won a crucial home match against Algeciras. Marbella FC was held to a draw at Murcia, which did not improve their chances of survival.

Antequera 2–0 Algeciras

Antequera increased their chances of reaching the promotion playoffs by beating Algeciras convincingly on Wednesday night.

They effectively settled the contest in the first half, when Destiny opened the scoring before Luismi Gutiérrez converted a penalty after Javi Antón had been fouled.

Antequera dominated the game and hit the crossbar several times.

The late red card of Marcelo did not detract from the result, which was a positive one for the team after their recent loss to Ibiza.

This victory moves them up to seventh position, only one point behind Teruel who hold the final play-off spot.

Real Murcia 1–1 Marbella

The same night, Marbella’s bottom team earned a point at Real Murcia. The draw was not encouraging for their fight to get out of the relegation zones.

Murcia had the better of the match and took the lead when Óscar Gil fired home from distance after capitalising on a defensive mistake.

Marbella had a difficult time creating chances, but managed to level the game in the second period with their almost only clear chance. David Selma met Jorge Álvarez’s cross at the near post to make it 1–1.

Marbella is still a long way from safety with 11 matches left and the same amount of points between them.
