Police make five arrests in Madrid after homeless man is seriously injured in brutal assault over trivial €15 debt

Five people were arrested in Leganes for kidnapping and assaulting a homeless person., over a measly €15 debt.

The suspects include a Colombian and his Spanish partner as well as two Hungarian identical twins and another Spanish. 

Police determined that the apartment served as a base to conduct small-scale narcotics dealing. 

A disturbing video of the assault began to circulate widely on WhatsApp.

The video showed the victim being beaten repeatedly, humiliated, and beaten with blood by a group, which included a woman. 

After several days of not seeing him, a local who recognized the homeless man alerted authorities.

He realized that he had not seen him for several days in the square. “The victim was completely defenceless in a residence and subjected by his attackers to insults and threats as well as degrading language”, the police reported.

A few days later, on 10 March, a man with blood all over him and a broken nase was found lying in the middle a street.

He said he tried to intervene between two men and woman in a heated argument and was assaulted after entering the same apartment. 

In 48 hours, the officers conducted an arrest operation of all five suspects.

The suspects now face multiple charges including unlawful detention, assault, serious threats, and crimes against morality. 

Authorities also revealed that two of the detainees – a couple – were in breach of an existing restraining order against each other.
