MARBELLA’S local police department launched a pilot program for body cameras that can transmit images in real-time to the Force’s Command and Control Center.
Mayor Angeles Munoz said that the officers would wear up to ten devices over a period of three months, each with a battery of eight hours.
This emphasises the municipality’s commitment to ‘strengthening officer safety and the force’s operational effectiveness with the incorporation of the latest technologies’.

The move is made amid a wave in violence, which may be related to drug cartels who are fighting a battle on the streets along the Costa del Sol.

The mayor stated that the new service will be added to the existing fixed video surveillance system deployed in the entire municipality. This network already has more than 360 cameras.
The mayor, who reported that the first tests were carried out during the Semana Santa, emphasised the importance of integrating the images ‘into our central control system, providing invaluable evidence and complete knowledge of the actions being carried out’.
