Polestar, a Swedish electric car manufacturer that is gaining in popularity, has unveiled its new Polestar 5 model. It’s a four door performance Grand Tourer. Created and designed  from the Precept concept car, first unveiled in 2020 the Polestar 5 is that future vision realised in production. Polestar 5 features some interesting and unusual features.

Polestar Design developed the Precept Concept Car into production with minimal modifications. They created a 5-metre Grand Tourer smooth roofline. Polestar 5 features the digital rearview mirror, virtual rear window and rear window of Polestar 4 as well. Polestar 5 also features the largest panoramic glass roof of any Polestar so far – at just over 2-metres long.

The front seats of the 4+1 seat electric GT have been designed by Recaro in collaboration with the interior of the vehicle. They are finished in Charcoal microtech as standard, or Bridge of Weir Nappa Leather.

The rear seats are designed primarily for four passengers. They can control the climate system with four zones, the seat heating and ventilation, as well as the massage functions. These rear seats are designed in the same way as Recaro’s fronts, and they can be reclined to suit your comfort.

Front brakes feature Brembo 4-piston callipers that are also found on the Polestar 3. The lightweight 400mm 2-piece discs combined with this system save 12kg compared to the SUV’s. This improves unsprung mass and handling.

Dual Motor uses BWI MagneRide adaptive suspension, whereas the Polestar 5 Performance has BWI passive shocks and internal coil springs. The dampers can read the road 1,000 times a second, and react in three milliseconds using magnetorheological liquid.

Polestar 5 Performance has a 650kW, 1,015Nm power output. The electric rear engine is a Polestar 5 in-house development that can deliver up to 450kW. Polestar 5 Performance accelerates from 0-60mph to 60mph in 3.1 second, while Polestar 5 Dual motor 550kW completes the same test in 3.8 seconds. Both versions have an electronic limit of 155mph.

Available to order now, Polestar 5 Dual motor Launch edition (550kW, 812Nm) is priced from €103,154/£89,500. The Polestar 5 Performance Launch edition (650kW, 1,015Nm) is available from €120,903/£104,900.
