PIOC (Partida Independencia Orihuela Costa) says the local government ignored its pleas to fix a dangerous road, where “they have proof that multiple accidents have occurred, some of which were potentially fatal.”
The road leads up to a high-school and PIOC has complained about it for years. However, the road still needs to be repaired.
Potholes have caused accidents already
PIOC states that there are many accidents caused by the deep potholes. The town hall said they could not fix the road because it was privately owned. If this is true, the town hall can expropriate the land as it is doing right now…close to Orihuela Centre.”
PIOC, however, suggests that this information may not be accurate, having examined the land registry of the road. “We can see the land that is where the road is located has no owner, or the owner hasn’t registered the piece.”
PIOC has said they will contact the ombudsman again and talk to the town hall if the discussion does not produce any results. “If we get enough councillors in 2027 to push for a change, then we will fix that road and area, as it’s really dangerous.” [and] “very ugly”
