Pauza’s spectacularly cool opening – what La Cala has been waiting for

On Thursday 27th March, La Cala de Mijas witnessed the official opening Pauza. This striking, new restaurant was packed with local food lovers and fans who were looking for something different.

Calle Competa 2 offers a modern gourmet experience that combines Argentine fire cooking traditions with Nordic, Mediterranean and Nordic influences. The result is a culinary experience that is as much about connecting as it about taste.

Lucas, a native Argentinean from a family of seasoned restauranteurs, fell for La Cala’s charm and people. Together with his partner, they realized their vision of a cool, warm space where the time definitely slows, but service is not. Each dish has a story.

Menu is simple, but focused on flame-grilled meats, such as Torre Angus or tender bone-in sirloins cooked slowly and low, sourced from Irish beef. Salads are made with colourful, fresh vegetables. The filled pear or Citrica, which pays homage to the Malaga Coast, is one of the highlights. Grilled fish, Italian touches and appetisers such as Calabaza Asada complete the menu.

Pauza has a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere that is unique. The interior is awash with romantic lighting, and the design is clean, neat, and sophisticated. The heated terrace outside was filled with unique, cool music that you wouldn’t find anywhere else. It set the scene for a more than a social event. It’s more than just a meal, it’s a destination. The carefully selected wine list and signature cocktails make this the perfect place to enjoy a drink with friends, or a romantic evening for two.

Pauza La Tienda is a boutique that offers exclusive oils, wine, timeless clothing, jewelry, and accessories. It’s the perfect gift or indulgent treat. The restaurant was packed all night.

The restaurant caters for events well. From private gatherings to receptions at weddings, it has wheelchair access, a designated smoking area and a friendly staff that is known for their knowledgeable, friendly service.

Locals have already welcomed it. ‘A space like this was needed in La Cala,’ one guest said, praising the ‘efficient and amenable service, beautiful atmosphere, and spectacular food.’ Pauza, which is open from Tuesday to Friday, 6:30pm to Midnight, Saturday, 12:30pm until Midnight, and Sunday, 12:30pm till 5pm, will soon become a favourite in La Cala de Mijas. Reservations can be made by calling 604 492 938, or visiting pauza.es.
