25th Anniversary Commemorative Mural – Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital

To mark its 25th anniversary, Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital has unveiled a commemorative mural that retraces, year by year, the key milestones that have shaped its history. Since its inception in 2000, Quironsalud Torrevieja Hospital has become a benchmark for healthcare, based on medical excellence, clinical innovations, and personalised care. With the motto Our Story, Your Health, the new mural – a visual timeline – offers patients, professionals, and visitors a look back at the defining moments of its leadership, development, and commitment to advanced, human-centred medicine.

25 Years Leading Change

The mural not only gathers together the most significant milestones since 2000, but also stands as a testimony to the pioneering spirit that has characterised Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital since its foundation. In the last 25 years, Quironsalud Torrevieja Hospital has been always ahead of its times. It was the first hospital in Spain to adopt medical techniques and methods that changed the way patients are treated.

Among these achievements are: the introduction in 2001 of HIPEC (Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) for peritoneal tumours; in 2004, the use of intraoperative radiotherapy with a mobile accelerator (MOBETRON) – the first hospital in Spain to adopt this technology; the launch in 2007 of the first Genetic Counselling Unit in the Valencian Community; and, in 2008, the arrival of the region’s first Da Vinci surgical robot. In 2009 the hospital conducted Spain’s very first series of robotic pancreatic surgery. And in 2010, it began an ambitious transcriptionomics programme to provide personalised oncology treatment. More recently, in 2023, the hospital obtained Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation, and in 2025 began applying artificial intelligence to clinical diagnostics through tools such as the Scribe system, now implemented across all Quirónsalud centres. This is just one of many milestones which have helped to cement the reputation of the hospital as a benchmark for medical innovation, technological excellence and patient-centred healthcare.

Each of these milestones represents a commitment to excellence in medicine, technology at patient’s service, and an innovative approach to health that is based on anticipating and improving continuously.

The mural has 12 QR Codes that lead to a collection of short videos, in which the same professionals who led this milestone explain its impact from an up-close and human perspective. These include:

Visitors can get a glimpse of how each person’s decision to introduce techniques, which were not widely known in Spanish healthcare, contributed to the hospital’s clinical expertise.

A Present that has a Vision for Tomorrow

The mural ends with the latest milestones. It highlights the integration of artificial Intelligence into patient records, the structure of clinical pathways and the bold Master Plan which will transform the hospital in the next few years. This plan includes expansions of the ICU and operating theatres as well outpatient clinics and critical care zones.

In addition, Quirónsalud Torrevieja Hospital is reinforcing its commitment to sustainability through a progressive decarbonisation plan, while also promoting health initiatives such as a healthy eating programme for patients and staff.

The Year of Celebration for an Anniversary

This mural is a part of an extensive programme of commemorative activity marking the hospital’s anniversary. It combines scientific outreach with humanisation, healthy habits promotion, and meaningful engagement both with patients and professional. Activities include:
