A travelling exhibition entitled Just Arrived in Orihuela allows visitors to learn about Spain’s history and take a look at the various schools of art that are part of the Prado permanent collection.

Europe and Western art in general by the hand of the great masters of painting, such as Goya, Velázquez or El Greco, among others, are on display in the street. Curator of the exhibition, Fernando Pérez Suescun, head of Didactic Content of the Prado Museum, explained that within the work of those who work in one of the most important art galleries in the world is the conservation and research and also the dissemination of these works, so this project has already travelled to more than 25 countries since 2019. The Iberdrola Spain Foundation has sponsored the exhibition to Orihuela in celebration of the museum’s bicentennial.

“El Prado en las calles”, aims to bring 50 life-size copies of masterpieces belonging the Spanish Italian and Flemish school closer to the general public.

The images come with information panels, QR codes, and explanatory notes that help you contextualise each work and discover the different schools represented by the permanent collection of the museum.

Through these pieces, visitors can delve into the history of Spain, Europe and Western art, guided by names such as Goya, Velázquez, El Greco, Rubens, Dürer, Rembrandt, El Bosco, Titian or Caravaggio, among others.

The Valencian Community has the honor of hosting the exhibition this time in Orihuela. The exhibition will be open to the public for a whole month and allow the entire population to see the works of art without having to travel to Madrid or stand in line with hundreds of other people.
