The reservoir La Concepción, which supplies Marbella and the rest of the Western Costa del Sol, continues to increase its reserves, promising a positive start for the coming summer and tourist season.
After recent heavy rains, the fresh water levels are now over 6 cubic metres. The situation in all the reservoirs of Malaga has improved since the first orange alert was issued on Friday, 28th February, easing fears about drought restrictions.
To put the level of water in the La Concepción reservoir into context, the amount is equal to 50 percent of the entire consumption of the Western Costa del Sol in one year. The reservoir is now at 81 percent capacity. However, in October 2024 it was only 40 percent.
The water level will likely reach the maximum allowable level due to more rain in the next few days. Sluice gates may need to be opened.
Conde de Guadalhorce is another reservoir that has benefitted from recent rains. It has accumulated 52 cubic metres (78.52%).
