AN ALICANTE man has been accused of running a residency scam for his family which allowed his mother to get €9,000 of free public health treatment.
The Policia Nacional has arrested the alleged perpetrator, a person of unknown nationality. He is accused of facilitating illegal immigration as well as social security fraud.
Police got wind of him fraudulently using the ‘letter of invitation’ system to get family members into Spain.

His parents were registered to the same address, and authorities stated that they had clear evidence of a permanent illegal stay and not just a temporary one.
The investigation revealed that the couple had not left Spain after the 90 day limit.
Officers found that the mother of the man had applied for and received a SIP health card, which allowed her to receive free medical care under the public system.
Policia Nacional learned that he intended to repeat his trick, requesting two invitations for each of his sisters.
Alicante’s court has now taken over the case.
Police said that their investigation was necessary to expose the abuse of immigration procedures, and to protect public resources.
