Waiters’ Race returns to La Cala de Mijas: No running, no spills challenge awaits on March 28

On March 28, the Waiters’ Race returns in La Cala de Mijas.

The La Cala Lions’ Annual Waiters’ Race returns to La Cala de Mijas with a triumphant roar along Spain’s Costa del Sol. The best local hospitality stars, as well as the best wait staff in La Cala, will be balancing trays with a glass and croissant on their shoulders through busy streets. They’ll show off their speed and skills without spilling a drop. This second edition of this charity event is organized by the La Cala de Mijas Lions Club. It combines fun and community spirit.

La Cala Waiters Race Dates and Locations

Participants will line up in Torreon Square at 3pm, Saturday, March 28 for the main race, racing through the iconic streets without any wobbles. Rules remain simple yet strict – no running allowed and zero spills permitted – turning everyday service into an entertaining test of balance and endurance under pressure. The crowds cheer on their favourite waiters and servers from the local bars and restaurants as they compete in this unique Costa del Sol Tradition.

Enjoy family fun early at the artisan market

Activities kick off from 11am around the iconic Torreón with a vibrant and lively artisan market and dedicated kids’ zone packed with games and entertainment. The festive atmosphere creates a day of fun for everyone. Visitors can browse the stalls to find unique items while their children enjoy interactive activities. The La Cala de Mijas festival is enhanced by this. Check out the diabetic stand while you’re there. It’s not going to harm you!

Medals and awards inspire the best talent

Winners receive prestigious prizes together with Best Waiters’ medals, building on last year’s success where Brad Carolan from Bridges Bar claimed first place ahead of brothers Dani and José from Cortijillo. Participants receive sponsorships from their respective establishments in order to support the Lions Club charitable work throughout the region. The La Cala Lions raise vital funds to support all their good causes.

Get involved or learn more

Before the big day, restaurants and bars are encouraged to “volunteer”, by bringing their best staff. They can also get sponsorship information or entry forms at the La Cala Lions Shop in Calle Torremolinos 12. Visitors can enjoy the free race viewing and festivities afterward, which highlight the warmth of this area. This annual tradition continues to grow and attracts visitors eager to see the La Cala Lions’ Waiters’ Race. Don’t get splashed!
