‘No one disrespected us, let us work in peace’: Artist with dwarfism defends Lamine Yamal’s birthday party

BARCELONA will investigate winger Lamine Ymal after it was reported that he hired people with dwarfism for his 18th-birthday party.

On Sunday, Yamal held a party at a property he retained in Olivella. Famous guests attended, including YouTubers, influencers, and Barcelona teammates.

He allegedly hired a group with dwarfism.

The Association of People with Achondroplasia and other Skeletal Dysplasias in Spain (ADEE) said this was ‘unacceptable in the 21st century,’ and has filed a legal complaint.

The ADEE has publicly denounced hiring people with dwarfism for entertainment. It said that it would pursue legal action because it “perpetuates and fuels stereotypes and discrimination” against people with disabilities.

Radio station RAC1 however interviewed someone claiming that he was one of the performers at Yamal’s party. He defended Yamal’s actions and criticised the ADEE association.

“No one disrespected us, let us work in peace, ” claimed the artist, who asked  to remain anonymous.

“I don’t know why there is so much hype.” We are normal people who do whatever we want in a legal manner.

“We are entertainers. Why can’t you do it? We can’t do it because of our health?

We are not monkeys on the fairground.

He said they performed for one hour, then joined in with the party where ‘everyone had a great time.’

The Ministry of Social Rights of Spain intervened in the matter and has asked that the Spanish prosecutor office investigate.

ADEE issued a statement saying: “These acts violate not only the current legislation but the fundamental ethical standards of a civilized society that strives for equality and respect.

“The general law on the rights of persons with disabilities expressly prohibits the following practices: ‘Shows or recreational activities in which people with disabilities or other circumstances are used to provoke mockery, ridicule, or derision from the public in a manner contrary to the respect due to human dignity are prohibited’.”
