Nine holes can be enough

Nine holes are enough

These small habits can change the way you feel and live. Miguel Franco

Golf mornings have been the same for years.
Rushing through the course.
Checking the time.
Consider the scorecards even before you shoot your first shot.

We all stopped paying attention to how the game felt.

Recently, I’ve done something different.

I played just nine holes this morning.

Walking.
Do not rush.
No competition.
No phones.

Just keep moving at a steady speed. Speaking when it comes naturally. When it’s not natural, staying quiet. Instead of finishing with a result, finish with a cup of coffee.

What surprised me the most was not my performance but the way I felt the rest of the next day.

Clearer.
Calmer.
Be less hurried.

The day did not start quickly; it was a gradual process.

It brought me back to the reason I started golfing in the first instance. Not to perform. Not to perform. Enjoy being outdoors, moving, and being present.

Nine holes is enough.

It is enough to move the entire body.
It is enough to clear your head.
It’s enough to reset the pace of the day.

This rhythm is perfect for the Mediterranean lifestyle. Not more. Not more. Not louder. Just enough.

A small, consistent thing grew out of the experience.

I started The Mediterranean 9 – a fixed weekly nine-hole morning for local golfers who enjoy a calmer pace and familiar faces. Walk-first. Do not rush. No rush. It’s a great way to begin the week.

This event occurs every Tuesday morning, 09:00 at Cerrado del Águila.
Small group. Familiar faces. Not much to see.

Many people come to golf.
Other for the Walk
Stay for the way it makes you feel.

Playing more is not the answer.
Playing differently is the key.

Sometimes, nine holes is all you need.

 Mediterranean tip of the Week

Start your day Do not rush.
Whether it’s nine holes, a walk, or a quiet breakfast – how you begin your day sets the rhythm for everything that follows.

 Mediterranean Habits to Carry Forward

If you’ve been following this column, these are the foundations I live by – and teach:

  • Walking daily is recommended, particularly in the mornings or after meals
  • Move naturally rather than forcing yourself to workout
  • Spend time in the daylight
  • When you can, slow down to reduce distractions.
  • Take your time and eat healthy food
  • Reduce stress by rhythm and not control
  • enjoy life – health should feel good

Consistently implementing these small habits will change your life and the way you feel.
