THE UK is unveiling a brand new passport – including enhanced security and a different coat of arms.
The changes, which will be implemented from December 1, will mark the first major change to the British passport in 2020 since the dark blue cover replaced the old burgundy one after Brexit.
Brits renewing passports will soon notice a change in the cover.
After Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022 the new passport is the first to feature His Majesty the King Charles III Coat of Arms.
The King’s design uses the Tudor Crown. This gives his emblem a domed, rounded top. In contrast, his mother used St Edward’s Crown that featured prominent arches rising up to a cross in the middle.
That is not all – the new passport also features state-of-the-art holographic and translucent features to enhance security, which the Home Office says makes this ‘the most secure British passport ever produced’.

“It also demonstrates our commitment to outstanding public service – celebrating British heritage while ensuring our passports remain among the most secure and trusted in the world for years to come.”
Brits will not need to apply for a new passport unless their current document expires.
It currently costs around €108 to renew a passport online.
