It began life as a sketch on a British £5 note over a drink at the Grenadier pub in London, INEOS Founder and Chairman, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, miffed that Land Rover had decided to cease production of the original Defender decided to build his own version and the Grenadier was born. This note is still stapled on the ceiling of the pub where the Grenadier first appeared.
INEOS engineers have upgraded the Grenadier’s steering system to give it a better on-road feeling. The new steering box has a variable gear ratio for the very first time. A lower ratio at the central position of the steering wheel results in a firmer and tighter feeling, delivering greater precision and responsiveness.
The changes will increase your confidence when driving straight lines at high speeds, changing lanes, and overtaking. They also improve the handling of sweeping A and B roads. The ratio at each end of the steering gear remains unchanged, ensuring the Grenadier – in both station wagon and Quartermaster pick-up guises – retains its off-road capability and performance.
The turning circle has been reduced by about five percent as a result of further steering improvements. The 2026 vehicle has a greater ability to maneuver on and off road, as well as being easier to operate in the city and on tight trails.
Grenadier 2026 also has upgraded climate control components that improve performance and predictability in the cabin. New shortcuts on the homescreen allow drivers to quickly deactivate Intelligent Speed Assist’s audible alert.
The Black Edition, a new addition for Grenadier’s line-up in 2026, is based on Fieldmaster trim and available as a station wagon or Quartermaster pickup. The Black Edition is distinguished by its exclusive and all-black body and trim, and the only Inky Black color option. Glossy black 18-inch wheels, a dark exterior package, privacy glass, and a lockable spare wheel storage container complete the look. Dark interior headlining, carpet, and interior trim set the scene.
Prices for the Black Edition start from €83,063/£71,995 and while there is no limit to volume, it will have a limited production window. For all other 2026 models, pricing is unchanged, starting from €59,913/£51,930 exVAT for the Grenadier Commercial, €72,103/£62,495 for the Quartermaster pick-up and the base model Grenadier and €80,756/£69,995 for the Trialmaster and Fieldmaster editions.
