Nerja is the first city to take part in a Bancosol organised food collection campaign, which will be held on the Mercadona stores, Friday, 23 May and Saturday, 24 May. The supermarkets are encouraging all shoppers to take part and donate what they can in order to help those in need.
The Bancosolo Food Bank, presented by Eli Villasclaras, local coordinator and Mari Fe Rico volunteer coordinator, aims to help families in need. The coordinators thanked volunteers for their commitment, noting, “Axarquía continues to be a shining example of solidarity, standing out as one of the most generous and dedicated communities.” The coordinators urged residents to help provide food to those who are in need. The campaign demonstrates the strong tradition of southern Spain in community support and encourages widespread participation.
Bancosol’s goal is to fight food insecurity. They do this by collecting food and distributing it to people in need and to families. They work together with local businesses and supermarkets, as well as volunteers, to collect donated or surplus food. Then, they deliver it to vulnerable families and charities.
