A special tribute concert to the music of Rory Gallagher, legendary Irish guitarist will take place at Louie Louie in Estepona this Friday (16 January). Band of Friends is an Irish band currently on tour in Spain. This show allows you to experience Gallagher’s blues-rock classics with a group that includes musicians who are connected to his legacy.
Gerry McAvoy leads the group. McAvoy played on Gallagher’s albums and tours for more than twenty years. The relationship started in 1970 and lasted up until his death in 1996.
Brendan O’Neill was a drummer who spent ten years playing with Gallagher during his formative years in the Belfast music scene.
The talented musician, who was dubbed ‘Ireland’s first rock star’ by many, was well-known for his guitar playing virtuosity and live performances. He was the lead guitarist and frontman of the rock group Taste before embarking on his solo career. During this time, he sold over 30 million records.
Gallagher didn’t have any mainstream chart-topping songs in the pop sense. However, he had a number of signature tracks that are regarded by many as his most important. The list includes Bad Penny as well as A Million Miles Away and The Devil Made Me Do It. Tattoo’d Lady is one of the most popular solo songs he ever recorded.
Tickets to the concert that starts at 11pm cost 24 euros if purchased in advance, and 30 euros if purchased at the door.
