Motosport mourns Borja Gomez


The world of motorsport is mourning the sudden and tragic loss of Spanish motorcycle racer Borja Gómez, who died on Thursday July 3, during a training session at the Magny-Cours circuit in France. He was only twenty years old.

Gómez, from San Javier in Murcia, was participating in a free practice session ahead of a European Stock 600 competition when he suffered a crash in a corner and was subsequently struck by another rider. The emergency services were called immediately but the young racer died at the scene.

Gómez was considered one of Spain’s brightest up-and-coming talents. In the Spanish ESBK and European Stock 600 championships, he was the leader this year. He has four ESBK wins to his credit. In 2021, he won the Supersport category in the Spanish Superbike Championship. He made his Moto2 World Championship début in 2022.

His team Honda Laglisseexpressing their deep sadness over his loss and remembering “his exceptional talent and humility.” The wider motorcycling world responded with an outpouring of grief and admiration, with heartfelt tributes shared by stars such as Marc and Álex Márquez, Jorge Martín and Tito Rabat.

Social media has been inundated with messages honoring the young rider. They describe him as “a champ on and off-the-track.” Borja Gómez’s legacy will live on in the hearts of fans, teammates, and fellow competitors  He will be remembered for his kindness, fearlessness and an untimely end.
