Marbella has prepared for its 12th annual Moraga Popular. It is an end-of summer tradition that brings locals, tourists and expats together for an evening filled with free food, music and celebrations on the beach.
The event, which will take place at 8pm on Thursday 25 September, will occur simultaneously in four different beaches: La Venus, San Pedro Alcantara, Levante and Real de Zaragoza.
For English-speaking expats unfamiliar with the term, a moraga is a traditional Andalusian beachside gathering centred around the grilling of espetos – fresh sardines skewered on wooden or metal sticks and cooked over an open fire in a boat on the beach. The quintessential Malaga celebration celebrates regional fishing heritage and culinary tradition. Visitors to the Moraga Popular can enjoy 1,700 kg of grilled sardines along with 1,000 kg of chopped tomatoes, as well as bread, drinks and beverages.
This event will be organised in collaboration with the local Fishermen’s Guild, beachfront chiringuitos (beach bars) and local bands.
The celebration of this food tradition in Malaga is more collaborative than ever before. The Fishermen’s Guild will be handling the sardines, while the chiringuitos will set up the food and beverage stalls.
Four huge beach parties will feature fresh, flame-grilled Sardines.
